Important Note; Alex Stevens was the Stunt Coordinator and Stuntman and did many 'stunts' on the Dark Shadows TV show, from the beginning pilot show, including dressing up like a woman to do a stunt for Kathryn Leigh Scott falling down the stairs. As she states in her interview with us.

However, when he was a 'Werewolf', he was his own character. With the weird twists of storylines 'Dark Shadows' was famous for, when Chris Jennings turned into a werewolf, Alex Stevens was the character. The same goes for David Selby  turned into a werewolf, Alex Stevens was the character. In an interview, David Selby he emphasized that Alex was his own character.

Back in those days, it was the wild west, and stuntmen barely got movie or TV credits, let alone the respect they deserved. And women, no way, they didn't want them to get hurt.

Nowadays, it's against industry and Union rules for men to double for women, or white men to double for black men, etc.  East Coast stuntmen Association pioneered these changes. If it weren't for Diane Peterson's relentless ambition, it would have taken even longer for women to become stunt performers. Diane Peterson was the first woman stunt person in the industry.

It was never about being 'prejudiced'; black men couldn't stunt mainly due to budget constraints and lack of availability. However, when it came to women, there was a concern about them getting hurt. The movie & TV industry was small in New York. Since there was a small window to produce most was made in California, which made ECSMA the king in the area.

Twisted Plots & Story Lines

How can David be talking to the wearwolfd when they are supposed to be the same person?

The director admitted sometimes they were basically pulling at strings to come up with new ideas for this wildly popular daytime soap opera. In the screenshot above, David Selby seems to be talking to the werewolf. How can that be when the whole idea of a werewolf, as portrayed by Alex Stevens, isn't that one person who becomes the animal?"

Master of Dark Shadows

I love the behind-the-scenes documentary, even though it shamefully never mentions Alex, who played an integral part on and off the stage. Dark Shadows documentary

Dark Shadows Wiki

Alex Stevens (1936-2015) was a stuntman from New York City. Born in Connecticut, he and his twin brother lived in several homes before settling in New York. He served as a stunt coordinator on the original Dark Shadows. Alex also appeared on-screen in the role of the werewolf, although he was never credited for this. As the werewolf, Alex doubled for the characters of both Chris Jennings and Quentin Collins.

Alex Stevens also performed stunts on the 1970 MGM feature film, House of Dark Shadows and its followup, Night of Dark Shadows. In 1970, Alex was the mystery guest on a memorable episode of "What's My Line?" where he appeared in full werewolf makeup. He signed in as the Wolfman. After the panel members were allowed to remove their blindfolds, Stevens removed his werewolf makeup for the audience.
